At the TEDx Accra 2015, Webster Ghana director Christa Sanders spoke about educational policy in Africa on a panel with Patrick Awuah, founder of Ashesi University in Accra.

Christa Sanders, director of the Webster University Ghana campus in Accra, appeared on a panel on education and innovation at TEDx Accra 2015 this month. She appeared on the panel with Patrick Awuah, founder of Ashesi University in Accra.

Speakers for the event were selected from distinguished nomination lists from Ghana and beyond.

At the event, Sanders said access to quality education is important for development in Africa, and she advocated for basic education be at the heart of government policies.

“The style of teaching in our schools needs to be improved to bring a holistic approach to problem solving,” she said. “We should also reassess the training of teachers and also equip them to better deliver on their mandate.”

She called for the introduction of innovation and technology into the African continent’s educational programs, saying the younger generation must be equipped with the necessary skills and training to make them relevant in the emerging global job market.
