Webster University's Amy Schield and Jordan Vehlewald honored as SLIAC Players of the Week for Fall 2014

Webster University’s Amy Schield and Jordan Vehlewald opened 2014-15 by earning SLIAC Player of the Week honors.

Webster University athletes Amy Schield and Jordan Vehlewald were among those honored as St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Players of the Week for Sept. 2. This marks the second time both Schield and Vehlewald have been selected as Players of the Week: Schield received her first selection in 2012 and Vehlewald earned her first selection as a freshman in 2011.

Schield was named the SLIAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. She assumed the responsibilities of marking the Gorloks’ opponents’ top forwards this past week, first by limiting Calvin College’s All-Region forward to just two shots in Webster’s 3-2 loss to the #24 ranked Knights. The next day, Schield once again shut down the opponent’s top forward, limiting Edgewood College’s striker to just one shot on goal in a double overtime tie to the Eagles.

Vehlewald was named the SLIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, helping the Gorloks to their first 2-0 start since the 2011 season. Vehlewald recorded 17 digs in a pair of matches last weekend. She averaged 5.67 digs in a three set sweep of Hanover and averaged 3.4 digs in a five set win over Buena Vista. Vehlewald also finished with 41 serve receives on the week.
