Webster Works Worldwide volunteers at the Zen Center

Webster Works Worldwide (WWW), our annual community service day, is just around the corner on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Since the start of WWW in 1995, over 28,000 volunteers have given more than 121,000 hours of service! We hope you will join us in this very important Webster tradition again this year.

The 20th Anniversary Webster Works Worldwide will open with a new event at 8 a.m. in Grant Gym on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Mark your calendar for “A Send Off to Fuel your Mind, Body and Spirit” prior to the day’s activities. We will hear some inspirational words, enjoy breakfast together and distribute WWW T-shirts. (There will not be a Team Leader t-shirt pick up in advance of WWW day.)

Team Leaders Needed: How You Can Help

The 2014 WWW projects have been added to the project database and Team Leader sign up is available online only. Projects that need a Team Leader have “TEAM LEADER NEEDED” at the beginning of the description. Click on the project description for additional information. Then, click on “Sign Up” to register as the Team Leader. You should show up as the Team Leader on the project page and will receive additional information via email shortly.

What is a Team Leader?

Team Leaders are volunteers who serve as liaisons between individual volunteers and the agency in need. The Team Leader plays a critical role in communicating the details of the project and coordinating volunteers.

What are the responsibilities of a Team Leader?

Responsibilities of the Team Leader include verifying the details with the agency (time, location, number of volunteers needed, expectations), contacting volunteers on their team to make sure they know all of the details, arranging for carpooling for volunteers if needed, making sure volunteers sign the roster and encourage them to complete evaluations. Following the event, Team Leaders will report the participation of their team.

How do I sign up to be a Team Leader?

If you are interested in being a Team Leader, please view the project list available in August on the WWW website. Type in the words: “team leader needed” in the search window to view all projects that are in need of a Team Leader. After finding the project that is best for you, click on the project description and sign up for the project. Please make sure to indicate “yes” for the question: “Are you interested in being a Team Leader?” The database generates an automatic confirmation for all volunteers. You should show up as the Team Leader on the project page and will receive additional information via email shortly.

Can I reserve a project for my group? (class, residence hall, sports team)

You may, if you wish, reserve a particular project for your group. Please sign up as a Team Leader and immediately email heatherarora13@webster.edu with the name of the project and the group in order for us know that you would like to hold that project for a certain group. The online project description will be updated to reflect the “RESERVED” status to ensure your group receives that project. Please also keep in mind the number of volunteers needed for each project so that the project you choose is compatible with the number of volunteers in your group.

Volunteers can sign up online starting on Sept. 3. For more information about the event go to the WWW website. Thank you for your support of WWW!
