Webster’s WINS reception for partner schools is an annual highlight of the NAFSA conference.

During the last week of May, staff members from the St. Louis campus represented Webster University at the annual NAFSA (Association of International Educators) Conference in San Diego.

The NAFSA conference brings individuals from around the globe to participate in discussions about global awareness and connection through international education. (You might remember that the conference was held in St. Louis last year, with Webster prominently featured as a sponsor and host.)

This year’s theme, Pathways to Global Competence, challenged attendees to think through the process of “comprehensive internationalization,” with opportunities to attend presentation sessions, plenary speakers, networking events, colloquiums, workshops, exhibitor expos, and poster sessions.

Webster Hosts WINS Partners and International Guests

One of the conference’s annual highlights is the WINS (Webster International Network of Schools) reception, hosted by Webster’s Office of Study Abroad and International Programs, which celebrates this growing affiliate program. This year’s reception, held on May 28 at Top of the Market, brought colleagues together for professional conversations with a breathtaking view of the bay.

The annual reception is a chance to connect with partners and community members from multiple Webster campuses.

WINS partners, who send their students to study abroad at a Webster campus, gathered to network and reflect on the year’s successes. Webster colleagues attending NAFSA participate in the event, representing their area of international education and strengthening institutional relations.

NAFSA offers a broad range of topics, addressing pertinent trends and advocacy issues that enhance and further international education in fields like Study Abroad, Intercultural competence development, SEVIS Advising, Academic Advising, International Scholar Advising, and Orientation and International Student Programming.  Conference attendees leave with strengthened knowledge and experiences that can be incorporated into relevant materials and ideas for practical skills and advocacy for our students and programs at Webster University.

Several Webster campuses were represented at the event. In attendance from the home campus in St. Louis: Grant Chapman, Guillermo Rodriguez, Bethany Keller, Kim McGrath, Kimberly Mantia-Ochoa, Suzy Schmieder, Paula Aguilar, Hannah Verity, Lori SharpDenise Harrell and Paaige Turner.

Attending from the Ghana campus was John Ginsburg, and from Regents American College of London (RACL) was Sinéad Dennehy and Esther Stracke. Locally, Candace Greene joined from the Webster San Diego campus location.
