President Stroble and Mayor Slay review historic photos and architectural renderings of the new Gateway Campus at the Arcade Building.

Webster University’s announcement that it had partnered with Dominium Development to expand its downtown presence into the historic Arcade Building dominated local news coverage on Tuesday and Wednesday, continuing on to Friday morning:

  • The St. Louis Business Journal ran two stories, with the breaking news story Tuesday and follow-up coverage on financing on Wednesday. The City of St. Louis has long sought to redevelop the historic space, which is on the National Registry of Historic Places, so pulling it off took creative partnerships among multiple entities.
  • Fox 2 news aired a story which ran on the 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. newscasts Wednesday, as well as the 7 p.m. newscast on Channel 11 the same day.
  • AM radio giant KMOX 1120 aired its story several times throughout the day Wednesday.
  • The St. Louis Post Dispatch coverage included a story that ran online Tuesday and in Wednesday’s print edition. Photos from Wednesday’s signing event also ran in Thursday’s paper.
  • Provost Schuster conducts media interviews after the lease signing.

As seen in Webster Today’s initial story on the signing, NBC affiliate KSDK (Channel 5) ran stories on Tuesday and Wednesday night’s newscasts, at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on each night. (Please note, the original NBC headline was incorrect – the University did not purchase the building.)

  • St. Louis Business Journal Editor Trish Miller and Channel 5 anchor Nicole Burleigh took their weekly St. Louis Business Journal interview inside the Arcade Building, adding outdoor shots as well. That segment is airing on KSDK’s Early Morning News on Friday, June 6, part of a regular weekly feature where they highlight the most prominent story in each week’s Business Journal.
