Webster University PK12 Educators Sustainability Institute

Among her more than 30 years in multiple roles at Webster, Diefenbacher led the creation of the annual Sustainability Institute for P12 Educators.

The School of Education wishes Lori Diefenbacher a fond farewell as she leaves her full-time position with Webster University in St. Louis due to a recent move to Denver, Colorado, to be closer to family. She has recently accepted a full-time position with Metro State University as an individualized degree specialist.

We are pleased to report, however, that she will continue with Webster in a part-time role as coordinator of our MA and Graduate Certificate programs in Education for Global Sustainability – in St. Louis, online and at the Denver campus location.

Lori has become a national leader in developing and promoting sustainability education for teachers. She led the effort to initiate Webster University’s firstĀ  sustainability institute. This Sustainability Institute for Educators is organized and hosted in collaboration with the St. Louis Zoo, the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Missouri Green Schools. The fourth annual Sustainability Institute runs from June 24 – 26 this year.

Lori began her career at Webster in 1981 as director of Student Activities. She continued in this position until 1986. For the next 17 years she worked for the School of Education as an adjunct faculty member and advisor. In 2003 she came back as a full-time staff member as coordinator of Experiential and Individualized Learning and advisor for the Multidisciplinary Studies Department, where she made great contributions in regard to the development of assessment systems and programming in education for sustainability.

We wish her well in her new position and thank her for continuing her leadership for our new MA in Education for Global Sustainability that begins this summer.

From Brenda Fyfe, dean, School of Education
