| April 16, 2014

It’s been another fantastic week for Webster University Athletics teams, with one squad reaching a new all-time high national ranking, and four teams having students named as Players of the Week.

Baseball: One Spot Away From the Top

The Webster University baseball team took one more step towards the top spot in both national polls, landing at #2 in this week’s American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and d3baseball.com rankings last week.  The Gorloks moved up from #3 in both polls after posting a 5-1 record on the week, with their only loss coming to NCAA I member Illinois State University.

The Gorloks received 451 points in the ABCA poll, trailing Linfield College (OR), who had 480 points and received all 16 first place votes.  In the d3baseball.com poll, Webster received 577 points, with Linfield at 625 points and receiving all 25 first place votes.  Linfield won the NCAA III National Championship in 2013.

Webster saw a 16-game win streak end with the 3-1 loss at Illinois State. The Gorloks and Redbirds were tied, 1-1, in the top of the 8th, but Illinois State scored two in the bottom of the eighth to post the win.
