Webster University staff members learned some best practices for building PowerPoint presentations at a training session led by Sara Boyd of Global Marketing & Communications on Jan. 14.

Ever have to assemble a PowerPoint presentation with last-minute information? Do you know “just enough to be dangerous” with this application?

Sara Boyd led a special PowerPoint training session in the University Library’s Electronic Classroom on Jan. 14, to help Webster colleagues save time when pressed with such a task. Boyd, writer/editor in Webster’s Global Marketing & Communications, instructed members of Webster University’s administrative staff, as well as employees from Student Affairs and the Multicultural Center & International Student Affairs, on the best practices for building PowerPoint presentations.

Boyd is a certified PowerPoint expert who previously instructed PowerPoint for corporate employees and in continuing education courses at St. Louis Community College. During this special session, she outlined shortcuts and other efficient methods to maximize the result of working with PowerPoint.

“The best way to learn PowerPoint is to take the time to play around with it and explore all the options it offers,” Boyd said. “But there are some basic best practices that can help you make sure you have a unified presentation, even if the information must be changed at the last minute.”

The training was tailored to how PowerPoint presentations are typically used by Webster staff overall, including presentations that entail gathering data — and slides — from multiple departments.

Another class will be offered in the future. Anyone interested in improving their PowerPoint skills should contact Boyd at saraboyd01@webster.edu.
