The Chamber Singers will perform a pre-MMEA concert Jan. 21 before their special appearance at the conference.

Come support Webster singers at a special send-off this month before they take their show on the road.

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 7:30 p.m. the Webster University Chamber Singers will present a Pre-MMEA Concert, featuring the repertoire they will be singing for the 76th Annual Missouri Music Educators Association In-Service Workshop/Conference at the Tan-Tar-A Resort two days later.

This marks the first time that any ensemble from the Webster Department of Music has been selected to perform at MMEA.

The Chamber Singers will present Aaron Copland’s most challenging choral work, In the Beginning, a sixteen-minute a cappella tour-de-force, which will feature Webster faculty mezzo-soprano Martha J. Hart as soloist. Shorter unaccompanied works by Orlande de Lassus and Claude Debussy as well as a quartet by Gioachino Rossini, featuring pianist Joseph Neske, will also be performed.

The concert will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 9 South Bompart Ave., Webster Groves. Admission is free.

Meet the singers and director Trent Patterson at a cookie and punch reception to be held in the dining hall immediately following the 30-minute program.

  1. Actually, upon further reflection (and a loving correction from a colleague) we note that the Webster University Jazz Big Band performed at MMEA in 2007! This is the SECOND Webster ensemble ever to appear by juried invitation at the state music education convention.
