Two new Ernest Trova sculptures are on display in the East Academic Building after being restored by the Department of Art, Design, and Art History in Webster University’s Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts.

Trova gifted both sculptures to the St. Louis County Department of Parks upon the completion of the Laumeier Sculpture Park in 1976.

These are two of five Trova works on Webster University’s campus. Abstract Variation No. 3 was installed on campus in August. The other Trova sculptures that can be found on the main campus are “Profile Canto L-P,” which was built in 1974 and is currently installed in the West Quad, and the Trova Gates, installed on the south side of the Webster Hall courtyard.

“Profile Canto L-P” also is on loan to Webster University by the Parks Department, while the gates were donated to the University by Ronald Greenberg, founder and owner of Greenberg Van Doren Gallery in Grand Center in St. Louis.

Ron and Jan Greenberg, charter members of Webster University’s Daniel Webster Society, were honored with the Visionary Award at November’s annual Daniel Webster Society dinner.

As a part of the loan, Webster agreed to restore and care for the art. Both pieces were in need of repairs after being displayed outdoors at Laumeier Sculpture Park.

All of these works appear on campus as part of the Public Art initiative. Public Art at Webster University is art on campus that appears outside of the traditional art settings of studio/classrooms, museums, and galleries. A gallery showing many of the sculptures, paintings and other art works publicly displayed at Webster can be found at www.webster.edu/artcouncil.
