Housing & Residential Life Staff Coordinate UMR-ACUHO Conference in St. Louis

The staff in Webster University’s Department of Housing and Residential Life — in collaboration with colleagues from Washington University — is spending their fall break in downtown St. Louis hosting the annual conference of the Upper Midwest Region of the Association of College and University Housing Officer’s (UMR-ACUHO).

Over 500 housing and residence life staff from more than 50 colleges and universities across eight Midwestern states and one Canadian province will gather for a week of professional development and networking, which will impact campus housing systems throughout the region.

Assistant provost for Student Affairs and Athletics Paul Carney will welcome the delegates to St. Louis Wednesday, kicking off a series of dynamic plenary and keynote speakers, dozens of workshops on wide-ranging topics, vendor displays and a case study completion for new professionals.

The conference is the culmination of more than two years’ work by the Housing & Residential Life staff led by assistant director Justin Frederick, who is the conference chairperson. Others playing major roles in coordinating the conference are Katie Knetzer, director of the University Center (hotel liaison), Chris Rice, community director (volunteer coordination), Mike Webster, community director (registration and logistics), and John Buck, associate dean of students (vendors).

In addition, Housing & Residential Life sponsored members of the¬† department’s student staff to attend the conference, including: Tyler Jensen, Jorge, El-Azar, Katie Coats, Katie Rochester, Shannon Haubrich and Stu Macki.

The conference concludes with a Friday afternoon luncheon.
