CMS Young Composers Competition Submission Deadline Oct. 25

The Community Music School of Webster University invites student composers between the ages of 12 and 21 to submit music compositions to the Young Composers Competition sponsored by Arden & Harry Fisher. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Oct. 25, 2013.

Since 2004, the Young Composers Competition has recognized and encouraged the efforts of students between the ages of 12 and 21 who are involved in the creative process of composing music. This program, unique to the St. Louis region, is an open competition which has received submissions from the local area and throughout the nation.

Prizes include:

  • Recognition at the Young Composers Competition (YCC) concert on Saturday, March 29, 2014.
  • Professional performance and recording of composition at the YCC concert.
  • Invitation to participate in composition workshop weekend, March 29-30, 2014.
  • Written critique and conference with guest composer Beth Denisch.

All events will be held at the Community Music School center on the Webster University campus, 535 Garden Avenue, St. Louis, Mo. 63119.

Guest composer Beth Denisch’s music has been performed around the world. Her music has been described as “…wonderfully evocative…simply splendid,” David Cleary, New Music Connoisseur; “‚Ķfierce rhythmic patterns,” Bernard Holland, New York Times; and “…brimmed with personality and drive …,” Anthony Tommasini, The Boston Globe.
