A Website’s Work is Never Done…

Though the new webster.edu launched last fall has greatly improved traffic, design, responsiveness, and the ability to serve mobile users, one thing hasn’t changed: A website’s work is never done!

That’s why work continues for Global Marketing & Communications (GMC), in collaboration with Information Technology (IT) and Academic Affairs, on exciting updates that make the site an even better tool to serve current and prospective students. Some of the updates are visible, while others are every bit of important but take place behind the scenes.

Out with the Old: Decommissioning Outdated Pages

In addition to continuous work improving the experience for all users (navigation, design, functionality and search capabilities), the Digital Team in GMC is diligently working working through the final phases of decommissioning all web pages and content from the old Webster University website. The final phase includes removing all remaining pages of the old website prior to the beginning of the Fall 1 term.

Digital Course Catalog: Sustainable Savings

Through close collaboration with Academic Affairs, the new Digital Course Catalog is providing any individual the ability to print on-demand the entire Graduate or Undergraduate Course Catalog or specific programs and pages within the catalog. This digital expression of the catalog isn’t merely an enhanced service for students, faculty and advisors — it’s also a sustainable development that creates substantial savings for the University in printing and shipping costs.

New Online University Calendar

The University online calendar is a forward-facing service for internal and external constituents, including guests from the community. But the software platform it uses is bulky and out of date. A new digital University Calendar is expected to launch prior to the beginning of the Fall 1 term.

The new system-wide event calendar will help promote events and campus happenings, with far greater flexibility. The calendar will have full personal calendar integration and the ability to sort events by location, department, student organization, venue or function.

Program Finder: Serving Prospective Students Faster

Another enhancement that should help students and faculty get where they want to get faster than ever: The new Program Finder, expected to launch prior to the beginning of the Fall 1 term.

This feature will allow prospective and current students the ability to search for degrees and programs based on keywords, departments, colleges, schools, locations, online options and more. The platform is a robust and dynamic academic tool that should prove to be an extremely valuable tool in the recruitment and retention of students to all campus locations.
