Dean’s Award Recipients Named for Spring 2

Four students have been selected to receive the Dean’s Award for Service for Spring 2. The award recipients are Fatine Bourkadi, Samuel Jones, Elena Marroquin and Olive Mukabalisa.

In order to be considered for the Dean’s Award one must be nominated by a member of the Webster University community for performing a valuable service. The term “service” encompasses a broad range of contributions made by students, both on- and off-campus.

Fatine Bourkadi, a senior mathematics major from St. Louis, was nominated by Bethany Keller, assistant director for international student affairs. Bourkadi was nominated for her leadership involvement through International Students Association, Tau Sigma, Students in Free Enterprise and serving as an International Student Orientation Leader and a volunteer with the Fuller Center/Habitat for Humanity.

Samuel Jones, a senior education and history double major from Hillsboro, Mo., was nominated by Justin Barton, retention initiatives program coordinator. Jones was nominated for his leadership involvement as an orientation coordinator, connection leader and previously as an officer with SGA.

Elena Marroquin, a junior public relations major from Houston, Texas, was nominated by Justin Barton, retention initiatives program coordinator. Marroquin was nominated for her leadership involvement as an orientation leader, student ambassador, admitted students day group leader, FYE rep at many campus events and member of the Catholic Student Union.

Olive Mukabalisa, a graduate student in international relations from Rwanda, was nominated by Katie Knetzer, assistant director of housing and residential life. Mukabalisa was nominated for her campus leadership involvement which has included International Students Association, University Center Board, SGA, ONE Webster, Human Dignity Club; community involvement as a volunteer at soup kitchen, and intern at the Holocaust Museum; and planning human rights events on campus.

Up to four students are recognized each term with the Dean’s Service Award. The awards will be presented at a luncheon to be held at the end of the academic year.
