| April 10, 2013

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) named three Gorloks as Athletes of the Week for the week of April 1-7. Brodie Dakin, Ricky Eaves, and Rachel Franck were selected for their performances this past week.

Brody Dakin, a freshman, was named the Men’s Golfer of the Week. Dakin tied for 29th out of 132 golfers at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational held at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill. He shot a 157 over the two days to finish 13 over par. Dakin had rounds of 77 and 80 on the par-72 course, shooting an 80 in the second despite high winds affecting play for the field. Webster placed 12th overall out of 25 teams competing.

Ricky Eaves, a senior, was named the Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. This was Eaves’ third Player of the Week selection in his career. Eaves improved to 14-1 in singles play with his win at the #5 position vs Greenville College. He defeated Greenville’s Ryan Haas, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Eaves also partnered with teammate Travis Blair to post an 8-3 win at #2 doubles against Greenville. Webster defeated Greenville, 9-0, to improve to 14-2 overall and 3-0 in SLIAC play.

Rachel Franck, a freshman, was named the Softball Hitter of the Week.  This was Franck’s second Player of the Week selection in 2013. Franck helped the Gorloks go 3-1 last week, batting .667 (6-for-9) on the week with a .667 slugging percentage. She went 3 for 3 with one RBI and one run scored in a 9-0 win over Blackburn College. She also had three stolen bases in the win. Franck went 2 for 3 with one RBI and a stolen base in a 3-0 victory versus Rose-Hulman, and she added one hit, one run, and two stolen bases in a 3-2 win over Rose-Hulman in game two of the double header.
