SOC Focus on Faculty Brown Bag Series, Feb. 12-13

| February 8, 2013

The School of Communications Focus on Faculty Brown Bag Series continues with the following talks:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 12, noon, UC Presentation Room
    “Stereoscope Filmmaking”
    Rebecca Ormond, professor, Film

Too few filmmakers have explored or proposed ways to re-direct 3D’s powerful visual allure to support, rather than detract from, the film’s story. In this brown bag, Rebecca discusses 3D’’s unique psychological time-space zeitgeist in recent independent films* and presents ways in which she believes 3D technology can be used to enhance story.

(*Includes a 3D screening of Rebecca’s recent piece, Seasons, also currently playing in Misperceptions: Art St. Louis.)

  • Wednesday, Feb. 13, noon, UC Presentation Room
“Putting Production Students Into Real-World Settings”
    Aaron AuBuchon, assistant professor, Video

What are the pros and cons of bringing clients into the classroom to work with students, and how might you go about doing it yourself? The discussion will include: dealing with client relationships, grading, finding the right clients and the model I use in AuBuchon’s Production House course.
