UPDATED: Kersting Named to 2012 AVCA All-American Volleyball Team

Webster University volleyball‘s Sam Kersting was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) 2012 NCAA III All-Central Region team. Kersting, selected as a middle blocker to the team, was one of just three sophomores among the fourteen players chosen.

Kersting has been a major contributor her first season with the Gorloks.  She leads the team in solo blocks (43), block assists (87), and blocks per set (1.29). Kersting also is first in kills with 285, in hitting percentage at .368, and is second in kills per set at 2.82.

She was named to the 2012 SLIAC All-Conference First-Team and was named to the All-Tournament team at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament, where the Gorloks went 4-0. Kersting has also picked up three SLIAC Player of the Week Awards for the 2012 season.

With the AVCA selection, Kersting is under consideration for the AVCA All-American Team, which will be announced Nov. 13.

Update, Nov. 14: Kersting an All-American

Kersting has been named to the 2012 All-American Third Team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA III All-American committee on Nov. 13. Kersting was one of 42 NCAA III players nationwide selected to the three All-American teams, and one of only 12 underclassmen selected.

The awards will be presented Nov. 14 at the NCAA Division III Women’s National Championship banquet in Holland, Mich., where the 2012 Division III AVCA Player of the Year will be announced.

She is believed to be the first Webster volleyball player named to the AVCA All-American team.
