Students shoot "The Road To Etretat"

As part of a production course in the School of Communications, students from Webster University’s Vienna campus embarked on a 10-day trip to produce a half-hour long narrative film.

During their “Creative Media Projects” class in the summer 2012 term, faculty members Holger Lang and Elisabeth-Zoe Knass organized the shooting of the production based on a story they developed with the students in spring.

The first part of the filming took place in Wallonia, the southern, French-speaking part of Belgium. The second part, including the key scenes of the movie, were shot at the coast of Normandy in northwestern France.

Shooting took students to Belgium and the shores of Normandy.

The intensive trip — with working times of 10 or more hours per day — had been exhausting for all participants, but was also an extremely exciting and fulfilling learning experience for the Webster students. Under the guidance of their faculty they were able to work in a realistic production environment and under professional conditions.

Currently post-production is taking place, but the students already considered plans for the next film that the two media faculty members are planning to organize in the 2013 summer term: Shooting a new project in Sicily.

The current film will soon be released under the title “The Road to Etretat,” and students will submit it to festivals, hoping for feedback and responses to their ambitious project.
