Dear Friends,

It is with deep sadness I share with you the news of Roy Johnson’s passing. Our colleague and friend died suddenly last week and will be remembered in a memorial service Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at 6 p.m. at Kirkwood United Methodist Church, 201 Adams, Kirkwood, Mo.

Roy was a lifelong learner as well as educator. He earned a B.A. in History (Drury University), an M.A. in European History (University of Missouri) and did post graduate work in Asian Studies (Seton Hall), International Education (University of San Francisco) and in Comparative Education (University of Aberdeen, Scotland.

Roy taught for 25 years at Horton Watkins in Ladue before joining Webster University as an adjunct faculty member in 1990. He dedicated 22 years to Webster and while here Roy taught a variety of courses including International Relations and International Business in addition to computer application courses for the Walker School of Business’ Math and Computer Science Department. Most recently Roy taught COAP 1020 Introduction to Computer Applications. Students regularly gave Roy high marks and complimentary comments on their course evaluations for the class saying they learned far more than they ever expected thanks to Roy’s dedication as an educator.

Roy is survived by his wife of 55 years Doris. In lieu of flowers at Roy’s memorial, Doris asks that contributions be made to Kirkwood United Methodist Church. Any other expressions of condolences for Roy’s family may be sent via the Dean’s Office or through Vicki Turner in the Walker School’s Math and Computer Science department.

Benjamin

As detailed in that note, the memorial service is Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at 6 p.m. at Kirkwood United Methodist Church, 201 Adams, Kirkwood, Mo.

This is definitely a loss to the Webster community. While I didn’t know Roy personally I am going to miss his contributions to the email discussion lists because I always thoroughly enjoyed his perspective and comments.
