Pierce in ‘The Chronicle’; Crabtree Honored; Ward & Elwell Serve Community

Dan Crabtree

Memphis Naval Supply Activity student Dan Crabtree recently received the Navy Personnel Command Junior Sailor of the Quarter honor.

“A Sailor of the Quarter is representative of the outstanding performance of all Sailors,” said Master Chief Petty Officer Scott Benning, Fleet Master Chief for Naval Total Force, on Navy.mil, the Navy’s official website.

“Overall, the recognition is about rewarding performance and we are doing that well in the total force world.”

Ann Ewell

Ann Elwell, community relations coordinator at Webster’s Ozarks Regional campus in Springfield, Mo., was recently elected president of the Southwest Missouri Higher Education Alliance.

The Higher Education Alliance is a nonprofit consortium of colleges and universities in southwest Missouri established to promote adult education programs. The group conducts education fairs, assists businesses in advancing an educated workforce and provides a central clearinghouse for education resources.

Elwell has been with Webster for five years and currently chairs the CRC Network for the University.

Ozarks Regional campus senior director Laura Ward will be inducted June 28 as president of Springfield’s largest Rotary International club, Rotary Club of Springfield Southeast.

The focus of her presidency will be on a “twin club” project with Club Rotario Tlaquepaque El Refugio in Mexico, where her members’ work will benefit an orphanage and two day care establishments. She also plans an emphasis on Rotary’s Polio Plus program which seeks to eradicate polio around the world. Springfield Southeast has 230 members.

Ward has been a Rotary member for 10 years and has served on Southeast’s board of directors in several different roles. She is a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and just completed a term as president of Leadership Springfield, a nonprofit which strives to develop leaders for community service.
