March 2012 Employees of the Month

| March 30, 2012

Tyann Cherry, senior academic advisor, Academic Advising Center, and Teresa Fitzgerald, representative, Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., share the Employee Spotlight Honors for March 2012.

Tyann Cherry

Tyann Cherry‘s nominator characterizes her as a “truly outstanding” employee who is very dedicated to Webster University.

“Her knowledge of academic programs is excellent which, of course, also makes her an outstanding academic advisor.”

The webinars and tutorials Tyann puts together are “well organized and extremely helpful” to the advisors, staff and students who attend.

Colleagues appreciate the way Tyann helps streamline procedures in Academic Advising and the fact that she is never too busy to help a fellow advisor or student.

Tyann began working at Webster in 2002, has been full time since 2004, and in her current position three years.

“I like the opportunities to connect different areas of the university and challenges that arise from an extended campus network,” says Tyann. “The things that I do in my job that have the greatest impact are always related to improving consistency and supporting the extended campus network.”

Tyann gives much credit to her team in Graduate Advising. “Their feedback, support and team mentality always make my day better than it started,” she says.

The best on-the-job moments for Tyann are student related. She remembers a situation when everything came together to help a student who wanted to study abroad for a semester in China. People from Study Abroad, Business and Management and the site location in China were willing to go the extra mile for this student, who was able to graduate on time and landed a job related to his study abroad experience.

“Those moments where people work together to achieve a common goal are always powerful,” she says. “They remind us why we do what we do.”

Tyann chose a day off with pay as her prize.

Teresa Fitzgerald

Teresa Fitzgerald‘s nominator praises her exceptional customer service skills. Teresa makes time to meet with students at their convenience and goes out of her way to take care of the online students deployed in locations around the world.

It’s not unusual for Teresa to delivers textbooks to faculty members who live off the base. She also promotes Webster University while participating in charitable functions.

“Teresa truly cares about our Webster students and loves her job, which shows in her care and concern for the Air Force men and women at our campus.”

Teresa has been with Edwards Air Force Base for two years. “I love working with the students,” she says. “From recruiting to signing them up for classes, and eventually calling out their names when they receive their diplomas at graduation.”

Meeting President Stroble and Provost Schuster when they visited Edwards AFB this year was a highlight for Teresa. “They were personable and gracious as they mingled with staff, faculty, alumni and students.

“President Stroble spoke briefly, and her words were inspirational as she shared her vision for Webster. It made me proud of our University and proud to be a part of it.”

Teresa chose the $100 savings bond as her prize.
