Dec. 2, 3: Community Music School Activities

The Community Music School (CMS) of Webster University is pleased to present a weekend of composition activities related to the annual Young Composers Competition sponsored by Arden and Harry Fisher. The weekend begins with a Friday evening concert by Webster’s New Music Ensemble at 7 p.m.

Date/Time: Friday, Dec. 2, 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 3, 1 p.m., 3 p.m. & 7 p.m.
Location: Community Music School of Webster University, 535 Garden Ave.
Admission: Free and open to the public

The CMS Young Composer Competition activities begin Saturday with an Interactive Composition Workshop at 1 p.m. where participants are encouraged to bring their instruments and actively collaborate in creating an original composition. The session will be lead by composer Duane Bridges.

Guest composer Stephen Dankner will present an Open Rehearsal of movements from his string quartets with the performing artists who will be featured in Saturday evening’s concert. The Open Rehearsal begins at 3 p.m. Audience members will have the unique opportunity of witnessing a composer interacting with musicians performing his work.

The weekend’s activities conclude with the Young Composers Competition Concert Saturday night at 7 p.m. featuring professional performances of the winning works and compositions by guest composer Stephen Dankner.
