Dean Akande on U.S. Economy, Political System

| November 28, 2011

The National Retail Federation says 152 million bargain hunters hit the stores over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Will this be the shot in the arm the U.S. economy needs? George Herbert Walker School of Business & Technology dean Benjamin Akande discussed the good prospects for this shopping season on St. Louis Fox affiliate KTVI-TV Friday morning.

Akande also appeared on KTVI’s “Jaco Report: Failure In the Political System,” which aired Friday. “If we maintain the Bush tax cuts come Dec. 31, 2012, America will be obligated to $5 trillion over the next ten years. That’s significant,” Akande said. “There needs to be a serious conversation in terms of how it’s going to be adjusted, and if we don’t, we’re dealing with $5 trillion that will be part of the deficit we’ve been talking about that will remain unresolved.”
