Webster Vienna Soccer Players in All-Star Charity Game

| October 19, 2011

On Oct. 5, members of Webster University Vienna’s soccer team played against members of FK Austria Wien in the biggest charity football event in Austria.

Alan Castillo, Andrei Aschilean, and Usman Rathor joined the TRIALOG All-Star Team, a team consisting of Christian, Muslim and Jewish players who were trained by former national team player Ivica Vastic and supported by other stars of the teams from Vienna, Innsbruck and Graz (SK Rapid Wein, Wacker Innsbruck and Sturm Graz, respectively).

The idea behind the event is to show that religion should not be a barrier to communication, rather a reason to connect. Welcoming more than 3,000 participants and guests, the event is designed to show the similarities we all share and our ability to build a relationship using a common intercultural communication tool – sports.

Proceeds from the event are used for educational scholarships for youth from these three different religions. The event was moderated by “Viva” representative Sasa Schwarzjirg.

See a photo of the event on the TRIALOG homepage at www.trialoginstitut.at and check the TRIALOG Champions Cup story for more information.
