Faith Maddy, vice president, Alumni & Development programs, Development, was recognized by the St. Louis Regional Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals as the 2010 Outstanding Fundraising Professional. The award will be presented Nov. 18 at the Chapter’s 30th Annual National Philanthropy Day Award ceremony.

Gary Gottlieb, associate professor, Electronic & Photographic Media, was awarded the 2010 Association for Recorded Sound Collections Award for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research in the General History of Recorded Sound for his third book, How Does it Sound Now? Legendary Engineers and Vintage Gear.

Laura Rein, dean, and Jodie Borgerding, instruction & liaison librarian, Webster Library, were honored by the Missouri Library Association (MLA). Rein received the Ronald Bohley Award for her work to promote cooperative activities among libraries, and Borgerding received the Outstanding New Librarian Award for her hard work and dedication at Webster University, MLA, and ReadMOre.

Van McElwee, professor, Electronic & Photographic Media, received the 2010 John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship award, which will support his work in video and sound. The award is given to those “who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts.” A 10-year retrospective of McElwee’s video work was presented in two separate shows at the Anthology Film Archive in New York. The May/June issue ofAfterimage” featured an essay by Robert Kohn discussing McElwee’s new work, “Liquid Crystal,” in relation to the writing of French cultural theorist Paul Virilio on hypermodernism. A new video work by McElwee, “Navigators,” was shown at the Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis  and at the Onion City Film Festival in Chicago. The Bruno David Gallery also produced a catalogue of McElwee’s video still prints. In September, McElwee presented and discussed his work in the School of Communications Fall Speaker’s Series.
