Oct. 18-20: IT emergency broadcast test schedule, survey

| October 13, 2010

All employees at the Webster Groves campus with Cisco phones will be part of a testing of the campus emergency broadcast system conducted by Information Technology and Public Safety. Testing will take place from Monday, Oct. 18, to Wednesday, Oct. 20.

The testing schedule and important information about the test — as well as an after-test survey — follows:

Testing Oct. 18 – Oct. 20

The Cisco phones installed on campus are capable of broadcasting audio messages in one or more areas to alert occupants during an emergency. The phones can also display text messages.

During this three-day period we will conduct tests to ensure the reliability of these features in the event of an actual emergency.

Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation. Your participation will help ensure the safety of everyone on campus!

What to Expect

  1. During a test, each phone in the test area will display a text message to announce the start of the test.
Each phone will broadcast a pre-recorded audio message. The message will play through the speaker phone, unless a phone is in use in which case it will broadcast through the handset/headset.
  2. If you are on the phone during the test, your call will be placed on hold. You will hear the message through the receiver, and then your call will automatically resume.  The caller on the other end will not hear the test message, only hold music.
  3. The pre-recorded message will be followed by a brief, live-broadcast message.
  4. The full test should last less than 10 minutes. At the conclusion of the test, each phone will display a text message. The message will direct you to complete a survey.

How You Can Help

  1. Once the test for your location begins, please remain in the area for the duration of the test.
  2. Listen carefully to the test message.
  3. At the conclusion of the test, please take a few moments to fill out the feedback survey, located at: www.webster.edu/technology/phonesurvey
