Accepting New Students for ‘Music Today!’

| July 7, 2015

The Community Music School of Webster University (CMS) is accepting new students for Music Today! for the 2015-16 school year. Music Today! introduces students to music by living composers and the business-related skills of concert production.  Students are guided by CMS faculty and members of Alarm Will Sound, a national leader among contemporary music ensembles.

Music Today! just completed its inaugural year.  Music Today! students are creative, adventurous and open to going beyond the boundaries of traditional music.  A concert may include water, bottles, chess, in addition to exciting rhythms and meters and new sounds. There is written music, as well.

Music Today! is open to string, brass, woodwind, percussion, and piano students entering grades 7-12 and who are intermediate level or beyond. Auditions are not required for acceptance, however, an initial “playing” will be conducted on August 30 to determine ability and repertoire.

The 2015-16 application deadline is July 31, 2015.  Additional information and requirements available online at or by calling 968-5939.

Music Today! rehearses weekly at the Community Music School’s headquarters at 535 Garden Avenue in Webster Groves.

Financial assistance is available.  In addition to standard CMS financial assistance programs, students who wish to be in a CMS orchestra/ensemble or St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra plus Music Today! can receive a $150 discount.
