Famed opera star and diction coach Erie Mills led a master class with vocal students from the Department of Music in the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts on Monday. This master class in English diction has become an annual event for Mills, who is in St. Louis each summer as diction coach at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis.

Six music majors — rising sophomores through recent graduates — sang in English with Mills teaching and coaching their selections. Mills also serves as English diction coach at the Santa Fe Opera and New York’s Metropolitan Opera, among other important houses.
