Vienna Commencement at City Hall, Grads Profiled in ‘Die Presse’

Nearly 700 parents, relatives, friends and guests from all over the world attended the Webster Vienna commencement ceremony, where 106 students celebrated their Webster University degrees.

Webster Vienna’s 2015 commencement ceremony was held at the historic City Hall.

Nearly 700 parents, relatives, friends and guests from all over the world attended last weekend’s commencement ceremony at Webster Vienna, where 106 students were conferred degrees accredited in both the United States and Austria at the Festsaal of Vienna’s historic City Hall.

A live brass band “Brassissimo” performed “Pomp and Circumstance” as the procession led by a flag bearer followed by the director, Advisory Board members, faculty and graduates. The commencement address was delivered by H.E. Alexa Wesner, U.S. Ambassador to Austria.

Longtime Webster Vienna director Arthur Hirsh gave a farewell address to the graduates as well as to the Webster community, as this marked the last commencement for Hirsh as campus director.

In recognition of the moment and of Webster University’s centennial year, a special publication from Austrian national newspaper Die Presse was produced, including profiles of a diverse sampling of Webster Vienna graduates, faculty and an interview with President Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble.

The day concluded with the traditional Alumni Cocktail at “The Box” in the Hilton, organized by the Alumni Department at Webster Vienna. Alumni from all three decades of Webster University Vienna came to celebrate.

Stefano Cantini, president of the Vienna Alumni Association, welcomed the new graduates to the Alumni Association and thanked Arthur Hirsh for his continued support throughout the past 15 years.

Commencement at Webster University

Across the network of Webster campuses around the world, local ceremonies will continue throughout the summer and into the fall depending on local schedule. The largest of these is the St. Louis main ceremony at The Muny in Forest Park. In this centennial year, 6,574 graduates from 110 countries are earning their degrees across the world.
