MA in New Media Production

The MA in New Media Production is comprised of courses in interactive media, audio production, video production, digital photography, and script writing, with a focus on content/storytelling through which to apply these skills.

As the technology in media communications changes, practitioners who can adapt quickly and produce content on a variety of digital platforms are in demand with employers.

A team of full-time School of Communications faculty recognized the need for a different kind of master’s degree – one that could help sharpen the production skills students already had and introduce them to new skills they would need to succeed in the current dynamic media environment.

“We are proud to launch the new Master of Arts in New Media Production degree,” said Rick Rockwell, associate dean. “No other university in the St. Louis area can deliver this type of degree program with the quality of faculty and curriculum we will be delivering beginning in the fall. We’ve designed this for students who want to develop the creative and technical skills needed to compete in the constantly changing field of media communications.”

What makes the program unique, however, is that it’s not solely focused on production. Rather, as students learn production skills, they also learn to tell better stories. The focus is on content.

“I’ve been hearing from students, alumni and others that they wish more options were available for production-oriented graduate programs in the St. Louis area,” said Kathy Corley, professor of film studies and chair of the Electronic and Photographic Media Department.
