Webster University is proud to participate in the second-annual Give STL Day, a 24-hour, online giving event on May 5 organized by The Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation to grow philanthropy in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Last year’s inaugural effort of Give STL Day raised more than $1.1 million for 528 local nonprofits. Over the course of the 24-hour period, Give STL Day logged more than 13,000 individual gifts, which ranged in value from $10 to $5,000. The Community Foundation launched Give STL Day 2014 as a way to generate awareness of the myriad of local nonprofit organizations and how they enhance our community and overall quality of life.

Webster University is one of the organizations that the community can give to during the day-long charitable event. Webster University trustee Gene Toombs and his wife, Judy, have generously offered a $10,000 matching gift challenge for Give STL Day donors.

“A gift to Webster University opens doors for our students,” said President Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble. “We are grateful for the leadership of Amelia Bond, president and CEO of the Greater St. Louis Community Foundation and vice chair of Webster University’s Board of Trustees, who brought this 24-hour community-wide online giving opportunity to St. Louis. We are also grateful to Webster University trustee Gene Toombs and his wife, Judy, who have agreed to match every dollar given to Webster up to $10,000.”

How to Give

On Tuesday, May 5, beginning at midnight and continuing for the next 24 hours, donors can visit givestlday.org and use a credit card to donate to any nonprofit that has registered to participate. To contribute to Webster University, visit GiveSTLday.org and search for Webster University. Donations begin at $10, and there is no limit to the maximum size or number of donations accepted.

For Webster faculty and staff members, a Give STL Day gift to Webster University counts in the annual Faculty & Staff Campaign.

Both Webster University and the St. Louis Community Foundation are celebrating 100 years of changing lives and improving the St. Louis community in 2015. On Jan. 21, 1915, a group of charitable St. Louisans formed a community trust now known as the Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation, with the intent to maximize the impact of local philanthropy by pooling financial resources. Webster University is also recognizing its Centennial anniversary with a yearlong celebration from September 2014 through November 2015.
