Students visited local companies at the Biological Sciences Employer Tour 2015.

Biological Sciences students received a first-hand look at opportunities and careers in the field through the Biological Sciences Employer Tour sponsored by the Career Planning & Development Center and faculty of the Department of Biological Sciences.

The April 13 tour provided students with an important professional learning experience. Students took their classroom education on the road and embarked on an all day, three-company tour to Sigma-Aldrich, SSM St. Mary’s Hospital and CoFactor Genomics. This was an opportunity to expand their knowledge in biological sciences, explore labs and meet and network with professionals in their future career fields.

On the lighter side, unexpected highlights of the tour included walking the suspended staircase at Sigma-Aldrich and seeing the Gondola Lift meeting rooms at CoFactor Genomics.

“The employer tours offer a unique experience that impacts our students’ career development and complements the knowledge gained in the classroom,” said Trezette Dixon, assistant director of Employer Relations in the Career Planning & Development Center.

“It also strengthens our partnerships with local organizations, creating opportunities that continue the mission of the University.”
