Anthem Health Coverage Data Security Breach

| April 16, 2015

A message from Human Resources:

Current and former employees of Webster University who previously had Anthem health care coverage are now receiving letters from Anthem describing the company’s recent data security breach. The letter indicates that employees covered by Anthem health care insurance over a number of years were potentially impacted, and they are offering access to identity protection services free of charge.

More information on this is available on the Anthem Facts website. According to Anthem, the breach may have included names, dates of birth, social security numbers, health care ID numbers, home address, email addresses and employment information, including income data.

Since Webster University provided fully insured health insurance with Anthem through December 2007, we requested that Anthem provide us more specific information on who was impacted so that we could alert those current and former employees impacted. However, Anthem has indicated they will not be providing this to any of their current or former client groups due to reasons of security as well as volume.

If you previously had coverage with Anthem, you are strongly encouraged to review the information on Anthem’s website and to consider the fraud prevention tips referenced. You do not need to have a memo to pursue the identity protection offered if you were previously covered by Anthem. If you have questions about this matter, you may contact Anthem’s toll-free hotline at 877-263-7995.
