Webster’s Howard Awarded SLIAC Post Graduate Scholarship

Webster University student-athlete Jenny Howard was one of two St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Post Graduate Scholarship award winners for 2015. The scholarship is based on a graduating student-athletes’ accomplishments both in and out of the classroom. The Post Graduate Scholarship awards the recipients a financial stipend towards their first year of graduate study.

Howard, majoring in Biology with an emphasis in Health and Medicine, is a two-sport athlete, a member of both the Gorlok volleyball and track and field teams. In volleyball, she was a four time All-Conference performer, helping her team to four straight SLIAC Tournament Championships. A runner in track, Howard holds numerous schools records, including times in the 100m and 200m dashes outdoors, and the 60m and 200m dashes indoors.

Howard is heavily involved in the Webster LEADS program and has been a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) for all four years. Howard is also a member of the Students for Biological Sciences group and has been doing independent research in chemistry for the last year. She also has served as a math and reading tutor for UrbanFUTURES and has volunteered at both the Mary Ryder Home for retired women and Special Olympics.

Following graduation, Howard plans on attending the University of Missouri College of Veterinary School, where she will pursue a doctorate of veterinary medicine and master’s in public health. She would like to one day practice veterinary medicine and own her own mixed animal practice.

Howard becomes the third Webster student athlete to receive the award since its inception in 2003, and the first since 2006. Webster’s other recipients of the scholarship were Brady Barke ’04 and Greg Murphy ’06.

Howard joins Eureka College’s Matt Dillard as the 2014-15 awardees. The scholarship recipients are selected by SLIAC Faculty Athletics Representatives (FAR),  The scholarship presentation will take place at the annual SLIAC Awards Banquet on May 19 at the Soccer Park in Fenton, Missouri.
