Dance St. Louis and the Webster University Department of Dance will co-present a master class taught by Compagnie Käfig’s Assistant Choreographer, Astrid de Toledo. The class will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, at the Jean and Wells Hobler Center for Dance in the Loretto-Hilton Center on Webster University’s home campus in Webster Groves campus.

“Once again we are thankful to Michael Uthoff and Dance St. Louis for the opportunity to host master classes given by world renowned dance companies and choreographers,” said James Robey, chair of the Department of Dance in Webster’s Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts. “Because of this, not only do our students grow from taking class with remarkable professional dance artists, but we also get to bring the dance community in St. Louis together as they utilize our beautiful facilities.”

The Compagnie Käfig master class will be the final of four different classes that have been presented by Dance St. Louis and the second this school season to be co-hosted by Webster University’s Department of Dance. Washington University and University of Missouri-St. Louis also participated in hosting these events.

The workshop intends to ground the body’s consciousness through exercises that combine somatic techniques. Then, gradually, participants will reach upright and move in space with this awareness and attention. Each will create their own dance, their own vocabulary through improvisational exercises. This is a workshop where the main purpose is to move with freedom and consciousness, to experience the pleasure of dancing.

How to Register

The class is open to ages 13 with three years of dance training. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required with a registration fee of $15.

Register by e-mailing or calling the Dance St. Louis box office manager, Ricki Marking-Camuto, at ricki@dancestlouis.org or (314) 534-6622, Mon.-Fri. 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
