Tennis & Track: Behrle, Hickson Capture Player of the Week Awards

Webster athletes Monica Behrle and Jason Hickson received Player of the Week honors for March 23-29.

Webster University student athletes Monica Behrle and Jason Hickson were honored as St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conferenc (SLIAC) Players of the Week for March 23-29. Behrle was named the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week and Hickson took home the Men’s Track Player of the Week.

Behrle, a freshman tennis player, won her second Player of the Week award this season after notching wins in singles and doubles against Greenville College. Behrle won her eighth consecutive singles match, 6-1, 6-0, at #2 singles vs. the Panthers.  She also won 8-0 at the #2 doubles spot with teammate Jesse Stephens-Willis. Behrle is 15-1 at singles and 23-6 overall this year.

Hickson, a senior, took first place in the men’s/women’s 10,000 meter run this weekend at the Washington University Invitational. Hickson finished the race in 32:44.77 and topping a field of 35 runners. He bested the nearest competitor in the race by over five-seconds and set a Webster record in the 10,000 meter run. This was Hickson’s first track Player of the Week, having won for cross country this past fall.
