Nine Webster University students participated in the Union Avenue Opera’s Crescendo Program recital and scholarship competition, with several taking home prizes.

Crescendo was designed to provide motivated students the opportunity to hone their craft while working with UAO’s esteemed professionals. The competition is open to all voice students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program within 60 miles of St. Louis.

Sicily Mathenia won first place and Randell McGee won second, each receiving a $1000 prize. Kat Menke was the fourth-place winner, garnering a $500 prize.

“All of our students sang well and represented the Department of Music with distinction,” said Martha Hart, assistant professor of Voice in the Department of Music of Webster’s Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts.

Collaborative pianists for the Crescendo Program include adjunct faculty members Nancy Mayo, Alice Nelson and Sandra Geary.
