Gorloks Grab Four SLIAC Player of the Week Awards

Gorlok athletes Marissa Lewis, Taylor Porter, Kyle Uhrich and Haile Wilson received Player of the Week honors for March 16-22

Webster University Athletics had four students garner St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Player of the Week honors for March 16-22. Marissa Lewis (tennis), Taylor Porter (track), Kyle Uhrich (baseball), and Haile Wilson (track) were all named for their respective sports.

About the Players

Lewis, a senior, was the SLIAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. Lewis nearly had a perfect week as she won all four of her matches, dropping just one game. Lewis won 6-0 over Blackburn at #1 singles and continued with an 8-0 victory at #1 doubles with partner Kaylen Kress. Lewis then won against St. Francis in singles play and picked up an 8-0 win in doubles action. On the season Lewis is 20-7 overall. This is Lewis’ second Player of the Week in 2015, and her fifth time being named overall.

Porter, a junior, was the SLIAC Women’s Track Player of the Week. She finished in the top three in a pair of events last weekend at the Wash U Mini including a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 12.81 seconds. She placed third in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 26.68 seconds. Porter helped her team to a second place finish overall.

Uhrich, a sophomore, is the SLIAC Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week. Uhrich highlighted a Gorlok offense that scored 46 runs in five games last week, including three games with 10 or more runs. Uhrich hit five home runs, had 12 RBIs, batted .474 and scored a total eight runs for the week. He had a hit in all five games, including three multi-hit games, and drove in three runs in four separate contests. Uhrich hit two home runs in a game against both Iowa Wesleyan and Illinois Wesleyan; he leads the SLIAC with six home runs and 22 RBIs on the season.

Wilson, a freshman, is the SLIAC Men’s Track Player of the Week after making his collegiate outdoor racing debut last weekend at the Wash U Mini. Wilson placed in the top three in two events and helped the Gorloks place second at the meet. Wilson finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.31 and followed with a second place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.66.
