The final rounds of the Hans Gabor Belvedere competition will be June 27-July 4 in Amsterdam.

Webster University will again host a preliminary round of the prestigious Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition.

The Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition is an annual international operatic competition that has launched the careers of some of the brightest contemporary stars. The winner of the Saint Louis round advances to the next round held in Amsterdam this summer.

“We were delighted when the Viennese managers of this competition asked us in 2012 to host the only Midwestern prelim,” said Jeffrey Carter, chair of the Department of Music in the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts. “Although snow interrupted our first date for this year’s competition, we are definitely on for this Saturday, with seven remarkable young singers in attendance.”

This year’s jury includes visiting professor of music Christine Brewer. Webster’s own Nancy Mayo will also be the collaborative pianist.

The free competition is open to all who wish to attend. The first singer takes the stage at noon on Saturday, March 28, in the Winifred Moore Auditorium.
