Webster softball went to Clermont, Florida, over Spring Break 2015.

The Webster University softball team had a long week during Spring Break, playing eight games in five days at the PFX Games in Clermont, Florida — and helping out in the community too. Like many teams that travel to sunny destinations on spring break, there were extracurricular activities that included: eating out, catching some rays and helping out with the Oviedo 12U girls’ softball team.

The Gorloks took time out for an afternoon to share their expertise with the Oviedo 12U girls’ softball team by running them through some fielding and throwing drills, playing catch and helping to inspire them to work hard and take their game to a higher level.

Laura Zeegers, a junior who transferred to Webster from Jefferson Davis Community College in Alabama, met with her family who moved to Oviedo, in the Orlando area, last year. Her father, Tommy Zeegers, helps coach the Oviedo 12U team and asked if the Gorloks would like to work out with his team and the Gorloks were more than happy to oblige.

The Gorlok softball team ran fielding and throwing drills with the Oviedo 12U girls softball team.

“I think it was not only a great opportunity for these younger girls to see the work it takes, and the talent level to be a college softball player, but it was also a great opportunity for our players to give back a little. Our (Webster) players really enjoyed working with the 12U team and it gave them satisfaction seeing how the younger girls appreciated the interaction,” said Webster head coach Chris Eaton.

The Gorloks will finally play a home game at Blackburn Park on March 19 with a doubleheader vs. Robert Morris College (IL) at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
