The five newest members of the Webster University Athletics Hall of Fame formally took their places in an induction ceremony on Feb. 21. Jerry Amsler and Kevin Fann (men’s soccer), Alex Raetzloff (baseball), Dana Vahey (soccer, softball, basketball) and Melissa Zwilling (volleyball) were voted to the class of 2015, bringing the total of members in the Hall to 24 since its creation in 2009. All inductees were in attendance excepting Vahey, who had videotaped an acceptance speech and was ‘in person’ via Skype from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, where she is currently serving in the U.S. Air Force.

Webster University director of Athletics, Scott Kilgallon, with the help of Webster President Elizabeth (Beth) Stroble and assistant athletic director Merry Graf, inducted the 2015 Hall of Fame class in a ceremony at Sunnen Lounge in the University Center.

Additionally, Webster graduate Helen Manion Comer, class of 1951, was the recipient of the first Athletics Pioneer Award. Comer was named Webster Athletic director in 1952 and taught all physical education classes to freshmen from 1951-1957. She also coached all three Webster varsity sports: volleyball, basketball and softball, and ran the school’s Athletic Association.

Ralph Olliges, faculty chair and associate professor of Education, was presented with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Appreciation Award by current Webster SAAC members Jay Hargis and Stephanie Lass.

The Webster University Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 2010 to honor those who reflect the Department’s mission of success in the classroom, the community, and the arena of competition. Former players, coaches, and other individuals who have made significant contributions to the program, are eligible for selection.
