Video: Future Teachers Experience Music Education Program

| February 11, 2015

Know a prospective student interested in music education? Check out the video featuring the Music Education program at Webster University, created by Global Marketing & Communications in coordination with the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts and the School of Education.

The BM in Education degree leads to certification from the State of Missouri to teach music in grades K-12. Two tracks are available: Choral and General Music, and Instrumental and General Music. Trent Patterson of the Department of Music leads this program, with contributions from other full-time faculty members and an army of master practitioners who bring extensive experience to methods and techniques classes.

All music education majors take courses in music theory and history, applied music, teaching pedagogy and techniques, and teaching methods. Some courses are taken from Webster’s School of Education. At the end of classroom studies, students spend a semester student teaching. Some even teach in another country.
