The Gorlok Baseball Season Opens Feb. 20 in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Webster University baseball team is the overwhelming pre-season coaches’ favorite to win the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) West Division in 2015.

This season marks the first time in SLIAC history that baseball teams will be split into separate divisions, East and West. The West Division will include Fontbonne University, Westminster College, Eureka College, and Iowa Wesleyan College. Webster received all nine possible first place votes as favorites to win the win the West Division and had 45 points total. Spalding University is the favorite to win the new East Division, which will include Greenville College, Blackburn College, MacMurray College and Principia College.

Webster has won the SLIAC Championship five straight years, posting a 37-7 overall last season while going 24-0 in the SLIAC. The Gorloks’ pitching strength is one of the reasons for their favored status as they return three of their top starting pitchers.

The 2015 Team

Leading the way is 2014 SLIAC Pitcher of the Year Isaac Behme. Behme was 8-1 in 12 starts, with a 3.52 earned-run average and 66 strikeouts in 79.1 innings pitched. Joining Behme in the rotation is the 2014 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year C.J. Lee. As a true freshman, Lee made seven starts and finished with a 1.89 earned-run average and 52 strikeouts in 47.2 innings. The third returning member of the starting staff is senior Chris Jansen, who made nine starts and posted a 3.39 earned-run average with 59 strikeouts in 58.1 innings.

Also returning for Webster is first baseman Jeff Kammer, who hit .362 with eight home runs and had 36 runs batted in; ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove recipient at shortstop, Matt Wollnik, who hit .273 with 24 runs batted in.

As a result of graduation, the Gorloks look to three transfers to recharge their offense. Joining the team are Blake Thomas, an outfielder from Lewis and Clark Community College, Kyle Uhrich, a pitcher/first baseman from Maryville University, and Alec Bahnick, an outfielder from Southeast Missouri State University.

The Gorloks open play on Feb. 20 in Memphis, Tennessee, as a three-game weekend includes opponents Wheaton College, Millsaps College, and Emory University.
