Academic Organizational Changes at Webster Leiden

Jean Paul van Marissing, Webster University Leiden director, announced the following organizational changes this month at the Leiden campus:

As of Jan. 1, 2015, Islam Qasem has been appointed interim academic director and Sara Lusini appointed interim coordinator for Academic Affairs. The interim appointments of Qasem and Lusini ensure Webster’s commitment to delivering a highly quality education and excellent services to our students.

Qasem joined Webster Leiden in 2011 as head of the International Relations Department. He also served as an interim head of the Business and Management Department. Qasem holds a PhD from Leiden University in the Netherlands. He also has an MPhil from Pompeu Fabra University in Spain, an MA in International Affairs from Columbia University, a Diploma of General Management from Harvard Business School, and a BS in Computer Engineering from California State University.

Qasem started his career working for engineering companies in San Francisco Bay Area. Before joining Webster, he worked as an analyst for a think tank and taught at Leiden University in the Netherlands.

Lusini joined Webster University in 2013 as faculty coordinator and site registrar. In 2014 she became head of Institutional Effectiveness and Global Citizenship Program (GCP) coordinator, and started teaching courses in the GCP. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from Leiden University, as well as a MA and a BA in Linguistics from Ca’ Foscari University (Venice). She taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in General Linguistics both at Leiden and Ca’ Foscari University.

Prior to Webster, she worked for four years as an editorial assistant for Lingua, an international review of general linguistics published by Elsevier.
