Last month Webster University President Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble accepted the “Leader of Distinction” award as part of the 2014 YWCA Metro St. Louis Academy of Leaders. Women selected for this honor are “role models – living the YWCA Mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.”

With the support of several major sponsors from the region, the YWCA Leader Luncheon honored 10 outstanding women for the important role they play in business, politics, education, science, technology and the arts.

Now in its 34th year, the YWCA Leader Luncheon is one of St. Louis’ most prestigious salutes to exceptional leaders. The stories of the honorees continue to captivate the over 900 people who attend the luncheon each year.

In a video profiling Stroble for the event, she reflects on her leadership philosophy and her approach to inspiring others:

“A mentor of mine years ago said, ‘Leaders invite others to the table.’

“What we know from books like ‘Lean In’ and so many others is that often when women are invited to the table, they fail to say yes. So be ready to step up and find a place for yourself, as President Obama says, not only at the table but at the head of the table.”

Also in December, Stroble received the Diversity Visionary Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.
