The work of Webster University students and faculty using Adobe Digital Publishing, an industry standard in the evolution from print to various digital and mobile platforms, has caught the attention of the company itself.

Thomas Groves and Victor Sujaritpinij, School of Communications lecturers at Webster University Thailand, recently attended the Adobe Digital Publishing Summit 2014 in Singapore on the company’s invitation. Groves was part of an expert panel at the event. Both were invited by Adobe USA after company executives saw the impressive digital interactive magazine, HHQ, produced by their Webster University Thailand media communications students.

The Adobe Digital Publishing Summit (DPS) is a key event for senior marketers and mobile strategists using these tools to refine the digital experience to define brands leveraging mobile technologies.

Groves was on a panel with a Singapore education expert, an Adobe representative, and an expert from Singapore’s leading newspaper, the Straits Times, as they discussed integrating digital media and digital publishing into the online editions.

How They Taught the Course

“Since the majority of our students are from all over the world, we wanted a way for them to share content with our student body,” Groves said in the video. To give the students the experience of making a fully interactive magazine, the instructors split their course into three sections — writing, graphic design, and interactive media.

At the summit, audience members asked “how a bunch of students could create such great content,” Groves said. The answer, he said, is the culture of the students in the course and their diverse design backgrounds that came together to produce HHQ.
