From Stage Agent:
“‘Hay Fever’ is a comedy which is part farce and part comedy of manners. The play is set in the 1920s in the English countryside. The plot concerns the Bliss family, a group of people with eccentric behavior. They invite a guest for the weekend, but the guest ends up fleeing the house. The Bliss family does not even notice that their guest has left.”
