Admission, Study Abroad Staff Showcased at Regional NAFSA Conference

College Fair NAFSA Region IV: P'Oryem, Ribando, Mantia-Ochoa

P’Oryem, Ribando and Mantia-Ochoa manned the table at the International College Fair.

Webster University representatives participated in the annual NAFSA Association of International Educators Region IV Conference, held the week of Nov. 27 in St. Paul, Minnesota. NAFSA Region IV is one of NAFSA’s 11 geographic regions and includes Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota and South Dakota.

University representatives from the Office of Admission and Office of Study Abroad included: Wence P’Oryem, associate director, International Services; Janka Ribando, international coordinator; Kimberly Mantia-Ochoa, study abroad advisor; and Jeanette Guellil, department representative.

Webster’s international collaboration was showcased at the conference. P’Oryem and Ribando presented a session on “Retention Strategies for At Risk International Students and Scholars.” Mantia-Ochoa was part of the presentation on “Privilege, Diversity, and Inclusion in Education Abroad” along with two representatives from University of Missouri. The three also represented Webster at the conference’s International College Fair.

All attended sessions on education abroad and international student service topics, including:

  • Improving International Students’ Orientation
  • International Student Engagement from Inquiry to Enrollment
  • Academic Support for International Students
  • Designing an Assessment Plan for  Study Abroad Learning Outcome
  • Designing an orientation program that meets the needs of students, parents, staff and the institution

  • Women in Education Abroad
  • Education Abroad Hot Topic: Visa Updates
  • Serving Underrepresented Students Across Campus
  • Global Teams: International Students Working Together to Achieve Goals
  • Tips, Tricks and Tools to Use in ISSS Office
  • Advising throughout the Passage from Student to Worker to Immigrant
  • Bringing Domestic and Global Diversity: A Student Intercultural Leadership Program
