Petition to Graduate for Grad Students Now Available Online

| October 3, 2014

The Office of Academic Affairs is pleased to announce that the Petition to Graduate for graduate students is now available online.

To understand the impact of this work by the Graduate Petition Task Force, consider the “before” and “after”:

  • Before: Annually, thousands of graduate students across the Webster network (main campus, domestic extended campuses, international campuses) printed out paper petitions, filled them out by hand, and submitted them via fax, email, and mail to campuses, departments, Academic Advising, Academic Affairs, and finally, to the Registrar.
  • After: Graduate students can now complete the online Petition to Graduate and receive confirmation that the petition has gone directly to the office which will review and confirm degree completion.

The new process saves time for students and staff, eliminates unnecessary steps, provides confirmation of receipt, eliminates lost petitions, and promotes sustainability. “We have been very proud of our ability to handle this task efficiently in the past, but this new system allows us more touch points and better operational excellence into the future,” said Beth Russell, assistant provost for Graduate Studies.

It is expected that the process will be available for undergraduate students by next year.

The online petition takes less than 10 minutes to fill out. Paper petitions that have already been submitted for October and December graduation will be honored and do not need to be duplicated through this new system.

The task force thanks the many units and individuals who worked collaboratively to further the goals of serving students efficiently and effectively, including: Registrar’s Office, Academic Advising, Online Learning Center, Information Technology, the colleges and schools, Global Marketing & Communications, and the Office of Academic Affairs.
