Webster University students Rachael Ainsworth and Jason Hickson were named St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Players of the Week for Sept. 15.

Ainsworth, a freshman, was named the Women’s Soccer Defensive Player for the Week. She protected the goal in Webster’s bid to upset the #1-ranked Washington University Bears. Ainsworth faced 26 shots, and 15 shots on goal, finishing the game with 13 saves in a 2-1 loss. Her save total was the fourth highest in a single game by a Gorlok in program history. In her next outing, she stopped two shots in a 1-1 double overtime tie against Franklin College. She finished with an .833 save percentage and a 1.35 goals against average. Her goals against average on the season is 0.95. Ainsworth’s selection comes after just her first two complete collegiate soccer games.

Hickson Does It Again

Hickson was named the Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. He placed 6th at this weekend’s Southern Illinois University at Carbondale Invitational. Hickson finished the 8K race with a time of 25:59, a pace of 5:14 mile. The Webster senior finished the meet as the top non-NCAA Division I finisher while his 8K time was the fifth-fastest in program history. This was Hickson’s second straight Player of the Week honor, being named for the week of Sept. 8 for his first place finish at Hanover College on Sept. 13.
